Your Air Conditioner Needs Some Space!

Air conditioning works by moving heat from one place to another.  Heat is picked up from the inside by moving air over the evaporator coils and discharged to the outside by moving air over the condensor coil.  Anything that gets in the way of all this air moving will cause problems with your system — reducing capacity, cutting the efficiency and, in some extreme cases, causing some very expensive damage.

For your air conditioner to work efficieintly and dependably, the area around the outdoor condenser must be kept free and clear.  Two or three feet of clear area is best.  It’s also best to have the area above open.  Many units are located under decks or other obstructions.  If the hot air being discharged is being “recycled” back into the unit, it costing you more to run that unit.  So, check your air conditioning system frequently to ensure it is free and clear.
