What To Do With Your AC Until Help Arrives
If you are wondering what to do with your A/C till help arrives, there are a few tips that although they might not repair your A/C, they will prevent further damage. Your HVAC technicians at LHT Cooling Heating and Refrigeration play a very important role in the health of your home’s cooling and heating equipment. There are some things you can do with your A/C till help arrives.
- When your A/C won’t start, it makes sense to panic in the sweltering heat here in South Carolina. But until help arrives, there are a few things you can check. First, make sure the breaker has not tripped. Also, check to make sure your thermostat is working. Your A/C will not turn on if the thermostat is not communicating with the A/C unit. You should also check to make sure all vents are clear of debris. Sometimes the filter compartment is not shut properly when changing filters.
- When your A/C runs for a very long time, or it turns on and off continuously, it is signaling a problem. Turning on and off usually means it going through cycles too quickly. This “short cycling” is a warning that you need immediate repairs. However, if it just runs constantly, the fix could be as simple as changing the filter or switching to a different filter. Thick, dense filters make your A/C unit work harder than normal to keep your home cool.
- When your A/C is not cooling your home, this is often a sign of a serious problem. However, sometimes the solution is much simpler. If your outdoor A/C unit is filled with leaves, weeds or other debris, it may be too dirty to fun efficiently. A high-powered hose can help clear obstructions from the unit and allow the air and blades to move freely.
While these are things to do with your A/C till help arrives, always remember the best offense is a good defense. LHT recommends a seasonal cleaning two times per year – in the Spring and in the Fall.
