Achieving Even Temperatures Throughout Your Home
In a typical home, it is not unusual to have slight temperature differences from room to room. However, if you are noticing an extreme fluctuation in the temperature from one room to another, there are several things you can check. Not only will you feel more comfortable moving around your house, but an efficient HVAC system equals lower utility bills.
Walk through your home and take notice of any areas that seem too hot or too cold. Check to make sure all of the air registers are open throughout the house. Be sure the return vent is not blocked by furniture, drapes, or clutter. Sometimes simply adjusting the lever on the air register will do the trick. Partially closing a register in a smaller room that needs less airflow will force more air into larger rooms.
If this does not help you may need to balance the airflow from the duct system-using manual balancing dampers. If your system does not have dampers, they can be added. These dampers are located at certain duct points and slide open or shut to increase or decrease airflow from the main source.
