Why You Should Hire a Licensed Contractor
There is always going to be a handyman running around. They’re our fellow blue-collar worker. But why can hiring them be a huge risk? And why should you always hire a licensed contractor for your HVAC needs?
High Risks
For every action in this world, there is a risk. Some come with more and/or higher risks than others. For example, writing with a pencil has fewer physical risks than mountain climbing. Picture this, you bought a new home and need a gas stove installed. Gas appliances always come with the risk of fires and gas leaks. Thus, you would want to have a licensed and experienced installer. This way, your home is at less risk of damage and covered by the contractor’s insurance and potential warranty. We do not want “Bob from down the street” to install a gas stove and accidentally start a fire. There would be no insurance nor warranty coverage for the damage from them.
This can be applied to your HVAC equipment. If you have an unlicensed technician install your system, there is more risk of the system being improperly installed. In addition, if there is a flood, fire, or other issue, the unlicensed technician will not be able to cover the damage. Chances are, the technician will never show up nor follow up after the installation. At the end of the day, “Bob from down the street” can offer to put in ductwork for cheaper than a licensed contractor’s quote. However, without the proper tools, experience, and education, he will not know if every thing is the right size, shape, material, and/or efficient duct plan for your place. These are just a few scenarios on why you should hire a licensed contractor.
Management
Sometimes we want to express our compliments and appreciation of a company’s work and workers. Other times incidents happen where we need to get in contact with management. For instance, dealing with a rude or inappropriate technician. You would either not use the same technician or contact management to sort out the situation. However, if you hire an unlicensed tech who ends up rude or inappropriate, contacting a management team would not be an available option.
Moving around an attic space can be tricky. Many incidents can take place without the proper experience or precaution. For example, one wrong step could easily break a board or flatten a duct. Once the accident is noticed, you would contact management to address the issue and have them communicate with the person who may be responsible. It is difficult to call out someone’s mistake personally. Thus, calling a manager makes it easier to get the situation handled without confrontation. They can also place precautions if necessary.
Media
Before hiring a technician or company, we look at reviews and other media sources. We trust our family and friends but it is good to get multiple inputs. This is when we look for Yelp reviews, Google ratings, inquiries on Facebook, and check websites. We debate their credibility and determine who is best eligible for the job at hand. If we hire someone unlicensed, we rely only on word of mouth. The relayer is generally one person as compared to the multiple sources of input that a licensed contractor would offer. There are also physical and digital traces of a company’s work. Below are pictures of some of our technicians loading up for a big project. This proves the company’s existence and gives the viewers a small idea of what to expect from our work.
